Leadership
A Greeting from Our President

We welcome you to the official website of the Sigma Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
We have served Harrisonburg and the surrounding communities in the lovely Shenandoah Valley since 1989. Located in an area where several colleges and universities abound, we have benefitted from the resources that the faculty and students from James Madison University, Mary Baldwin University, Bridgewater College, and Eastern Mennonite University have brought to our chapter. We are the graduate chapter most responsible for the guidance and mentoring of the undergraduate members of the Lambda Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Often in concert with the undergraduates, we have conducted food and clothing drives for needy people in our community. We have supported the rescue work of First Step, a shelter for abused women and children, and we have donated meals and fresh produce to Our Community Place, a shelter for homeless people.
Though we are a small chapter, we have had a mighty impact on our community though an annual Dr. Martin Luther King Breakfast Program, the annual Drum Major Award for Community Leadership, and the Harrisonburg Educational Scholarship Program.
We invite you to visit our website to see how you might participate in some of our outreach programs. If you are a member of our illustrious sorority and interested in transferring, reactivating, or attending a chapter meeting, we encourage you to contact us directly at gabbinjv@gmail.com.
Warm regards,
